Meet the Board

Vaughan Busby - Non-executive Chairman

B.Pharm, MBA (IMD Business School Switzerland)

Vaughan joined the SciDev Board in August 2021. Mr Busby trained as a chemist and has extensive experience as a company director, having sat on a number of private and ASX listed boards over the last 15 years. He currently serves as a non-executive director for Energy Queensland Limited, a government-owned corporation and the largest energy company in Australia.

Mr Busby is also a non-executive director for EnergyOne (ASX:EOL), a company providing specialist software to the energy industry and Netlogix Group Holdings Limited, a New Zealand based company specialising in supply chain logistics.

Simone Watt - Non-executive Director

BAppSc

Simone joined SciDev in October 2018. She is the Managing Director of Sinoz Chemical and Commodities (Sinoz), a global company supplying reagents and technology-based improvements to the mining and agribusiness industries. Simone is also a director of Kemtec Mineral Processing and Kanins International, which are both part of the Sinoz Group of companies. 

Simone has extensive experience in the areas of strategic sourcing and supplier management, business development and sales and marketing.

Ms Watt has a degree in applied science and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Jon Gourlay - Non-executive Director

CA, BCom

Jon joined SciDev in May 2019. He is currently Technology and Innovation Commercial and IP Manager at Newcrest Mining where he has held previous roles in investor relations and business improvement. Jon has extensive experience in management consulting, business improvement, finance projects and IP management in Australia, PNG and Europe.

Jon has worked in professional services with both Deloitte and PricewaterhouseCoopers and is a Director of luggage company Henty Designs.

Mr Gourlay is a chartered accountant, has a commerce degree (finance and accounting) and graduate diplomas in international relations, investor relations and management.

Dan O'Toole - Non-Executive Director

BEng(GeolEng)(Hons)

Dan joined SciDev in February 2021. He brings over 35 years of experience across the Engineering and Consulting sectors, including more than 18 years in executive leadership roles within Coffey International Limited and Pitt & Sherry. 

Dan is currently the Chairman of Viotel Limited, a privately owned company using world-class monitoring technology, focussed on empowering mining, transport and infrastructure businesses in mitigate risks.

Prior to his current position, Dan was the Chief Executive Officer of Pitt & Sherry, one of Australia’s most dynamic consulting engineering companies.  He lead a team of high-calibre professional consultants, servicing the transport infrastructure, mining, energy, industrial, and tourism & recreation market sectors. He also had an extensive career at Coffey International Ltd including 3 years as Chief Executive Officer of Coffey Mining Pty Ltd.  Coffey are experts in geotechnical, environmental, engineering, testing and Client-side project management services, focused on delivering technical excellence to manage complex risks for clients.

Mr O’Toole holds a Bachelor of Geological Engineering (Hons) from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Engineers and a member of both Australasian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Heath Roberts - Company Secretary

DipLaw (SAB)

Heath was appointed Company Secretary in 2017. Heath is a commercial solicitor with over 20 years of ASX listed company experience to Executive Director level. His strengths lie in corporate operations and compliance, asset due diligence and acquisitions and equity/debt funding focused on the resources, IT and healthcare sectors. As Company Secretary and then Executive Director of WPG Resources Ltd (2005-13), Heath played a pivotal role in the acquisition of WPG's iron ore assets in South Australia, project permitting/funding and then sale to Arium Ltd for $320 million in 2011.

Mr Roberts holds a DipLaw (SAB) and Grad Dip Legal Practice (UTS).
